How this differs from the other review bots

Written to be useful rather than flattering. Where a competitor is better, that is said.

Every tool in this category posts pull request activity into chat. The differences that actually change your week are these four.

1. Who gets pinged

The common design reminds reviewers on a timer. That is right about half the time. When the reviewer has already left comments and requested changes, the review is not waiting on them — it is waiting on the author, and pinging the reviewer again teaches everyone to mute the bot.

Review Baton decides who is actually holding things up: requested changes, unresolved discussions, or a failing build move the reminder to the author and leave reviewers alone until the author moves.

2. Threads or channels

Some tools create a dedicated channel for every pull request. It keeps conversations separate, and for teams that live in review it can work well — but a workspace with twenty open pull requests grows twenty channels, and the archive of last quarter is a graveyard in your sidebar.

Here each pull request gets one root message and a thread underneath it, in a channel you already have.

3. What it costs as you grow

Team sizeTypical per-seat planReview Baton
5 developersabout $40 / month$49 / month
15 developersabout $125 / month$49 / month
30 developersabout $250 / month$49 / month

Per-seat figures use a mid-range published rate of roughly $8 per developer per month; check the current price of whichever tool you are comparing. Below about six developers, per-seat is cheaper — that is the honest reading of the table.

4. Where your code lives

GitHub and GitLab are both first-class, and self-hosted GitLab works the same as gitlab.com. Several competitors are GitHub-only, and a few treat GitLab as an afterthought that stops at the enterprise boundary.

What this does not do

Deliberately, and with no plan to change soon:

The short version

If your reviews stall because nobody is sure whose turn it is, and your chat is already noisy enough, this is built for exactly that. If you need assignment, dashboards or an on-prem install, buy something else and be happier.
